Living full-time in a van teaches you what really works — and what slowly drives you nuts. These aren’t regrets, but the little things I’d quietly change about my Toyota HiAce now that I’ve been on the road for a while.
Here’s what’s testing my sanity lately:
✅ Water storage – tap packs everywhere. I’d swap for a proper 100L tank under the bed.
✅ Insulation – good enough to start, but brutal in summer heat.
✅ Clothes tubs – Kmart plastic tubs squeak and topple on corners.
✅ Too much stuff – we still move four milk crates before we drive.
✅ Laundry – rope clothesline works… until the wind steals your socks.
None of these ruin vanlife — but together, they remind you that comfort comes from small fixes, not big overhauls.
