Months ago, I pulled into my brother’s driveway to reset. I stopped checking my battery levels. I stopped looking over my shoulder at night. I traded the constant vigilance of the road for the “Performance of Safety” that only four walls and a real door can provide.
But comfort has a cost.
In this video, I’m talking about Stationary Rot—the mental stagnation that sets in when you stop moving. I’ve become soft in the domesticity, and as I pack the HiAce to head back out, I’m realizing that leaving the safety of a “normal” life is significantly harder than the act of living on the road itself.
It’s a psychological re-arming. It’s the transition from being a resident to being a drifter again, and the nervous feeling in my gut is proof that the road still has a hold on me.
